Up-and-coming Atlanta product Reese (not to be confused with Lil Reese, who you may already be familiar with thanks to certain controversial behaviour) may be a new name in your musical dictionary, but he's one of rap's most prolific newcomers. Fresh out today, the Don Cannon-hosted Reese Vs. The World 2 is Reese's eighth project to date—and may well be his biggest.
The 12-track tape features a mixed group of guests, including Twista, Buddy and Trinidad Jame$, while Mike Will Made It (Juicy J "Bandz A Make Her Dance"), T-Minus (Kendrick Lamar "Swimming Pools") and Sonny Digital (2 Chainz "Birthday Song") lend some hefty production.
Just because the soundscape can largely be pigeonholed as "trap rap" though, don't mistake Reese for another drawling Southern rapper. Tracks like "Up Up and Away" demonstrate his penchant for dreamy melodies, while the Pharrell-produced "Dope Dealer" proves his range on more leftfield, off-kilter rhythms.
