Marissa Nadler, she of wintry folk and melancholy melodies, is quite prolific when it comes to releasing her DIY recordings of classic covers, demos and other raw material (many of which are homerecordings and can be purchased via Etsy). The Boston songbird's latest full-length album, Sister, is an elegant compilation of sweetly dark music that serves as a platform for her striking vocals (as if that voice needs showcasing) and often-enigmatic lyrics. Now, Nadler is back in the "studio," working on new tracks for an upcoming record and making tunes with friends.
"My Dreams Have Withered and Died," a Richard and Linda Thompson cover, pairs Nadler with Angel Olsen (aka Angela Babbler, minimalist folkstress, part-time "babbler"). The stripped down track features just the two ladies and their lovely, distinctive voices (there's a guitar in there too, but it could just as easily be absent, as Nadler and Olsen carry the song completely).
