Remakes and reboots seem to be everywhere, but not all of them are as unoriginal as some critics might think. Sure, there might be some cynical motivations for, say, cashing in on the popularity of Star Wars, but there are also some stories that audiences want told.
For example, The Wizard of Oz is a tale that, for almost 80 years, has captivated people's attention. However, it was adapted from one of many novels by L. Frank Baum, and there is a richness to the Oz mythology that few films have ever replicated.
Thankfully, Sam Raimi is bringing more of that wonder to screen with Oz The Great and Powerful. Starring James Franco, it tells how the titular Wizard of Oz began his journey as a small-time magician in Kansas and became the ruler of the famous Emerald City. Watch the trailer below (via Empire) and be prepared for a massive invigoration of the classic tale.
