Countless bands have aped Pixies' signature loud/soft alt-rock dynamic, but only a handful have managed to fill that structure with the ferocity and vigor that made Black Francis and friends so worth echoing. Count Guards in that handful. The second single off the New York outfit's upcoming debut album In Guards We Trust (set to arrive on Feb. 5, 2013 from Black Bell Records/Velvet Vision) twists more easy melodies around chunky, clean guitars into a perfect candy-swirled chorus.
