Does Lana Del Rey seek out controversy or is she just a very pretty piece of flypaper? Evidence would point to the former, but the singer does have an uncanny knack for appearing totally nonchalant about the buzz surrounding her career.
Hot on the heels of the epic, if not mildly to moderately (depending on who you ask) anti-feminist, music video for "Ride," Del Rey has opened up about that curious little lyric that compares the taste of her lady bits to a refreshing soft drink. The line, "My pussy tastes like Pepsi Cola / My eyes are wide like cherry pie," can be heard on the track "Cola," from her forthcoming Born to Die - The Paradise Edition. According to the singer, this phrase is something she grabbed from her boyfriend, Kassidy frontman Barrie-James O'Neill, who must be an old-fashioned romantic at heart. "I have a Scottish boyfriend, and that's just what he says!"
Del Rey also told Australian radio station Triple J that while she had no misgivings about releasing "Cola," members of her camp were not as amused. "I didn't [hesitate] but everyone around me did." She added that "There was a lot of laughter. I'm getting lots of Pepsi comments, lots of Pepsi fanmail."
