PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) has a new celebrity target, and her name is Honey Boo Boo. The TLC reality star, whose actual name is Alana Thompson, has a new pet chicken, whom she decided to name Nugget. Once PETA caught wind of the name, the organization sent Honey Boo Boo a letter suggesting she rename the animal.
The letter, written by Michelle Cho and obtained by E! News, asks Honey Boo Boo to consider renaming her chicken "Not a Nugget," after the PETA youth outreach mascot, and asks the tiny beauty queen to "honor her as your friend and protect other chickens just like her." Basically, PETA doesn't want Honey Boo Boo to turn Nugget into her namesake.
That doesn't mean Honey Boo Boo has to stop eating chicken nuggets. The letter reads, "You won't have to give up 'chicken-nugget power.' There are yummy vegan-chicken nuggets in grocery stores today that taste just like meat, except no chicken has to die to make them." So the organization is sending her free vegan nuggets.
Neither Honey Boo Boo nor her mother June Shannon has commented on the letter.
Something tells me there won't be many vegan nuggets in the family shopping cart, although the fate of Nugget is still uncertain.
