Members of ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead and The Coathangers have teamed up as one monster group to cover Pussy Riot's "Putin Lights Up The Fires," under the moniker Thee Deadcoats. Today, we are more than excited to premiere this spot-on cover.
The track, which you can download on a contribute-what-you-want basis, is available on the band's Bandcamp and was originally intended to help fund Pussy Riot's legal defense fund, as well as raise awareness of the situation. However, in light of the recent events in the Northeast, the group has decided to split the donations 50/50 between Pussy Riot's legal defense and the American Red Cross Hurricane Sandy Relief.
Thee Deadcoats version of "Putin Lights Up The Fires" stays true to the original. Short and sweet, the song features the crunchy guitarwork, romping percussion, and primal, passionate vocals that made the world stand by Pussy Riot's side when the three members were unrightfully put behind bars months ago.
