The Kurt Cobain Musical That Will Or Won't Happen

Last month Courtney Love’s on-again off-again manager Sam Rufti claimed that he and Love were working on a project about the life of the late Nirvana frontman. According to Music-News, Rufti said that they "are currently working on a possible motion picture or Broadway musical based on the Nirvana catalogue, based on her life and Kurt Cobain's."

Love adamantly denied these rumors in an interview with The Observer, stating that "there will be no musical," and "sometimes its best just to leave things alone." Lufti announced the alleged plans in a logical and discrete way—in a Los Angeles courtroom during his trial against Britney Spears and her parents.

According to NME, Love recently “gave up some rights to Cobain's likeness and Nirvana's publishing, which has caused anger among fans who believe she is watering down the singer's legacy.” These sales coincided with news of a new CBS sitcom entitled Smells Like Teen Spirit, and the sale of a bass guitar from the “Smells Like Teen Spirit” video. Also, who could forget the infamous Muppets incident?

"I got bullied into selling what I sold," Love told The Observer. "I regret it so much. I'm never selling the rest of it." It’s like no one is paying any attention to those anti-bullying PSAs! It's interesting how the sanctity of memory correlates with how much money stands to be made.

But I do have to admit, I’m morbidly curious about how a theater full of Broadway musical fans would react to an abrasive adaptation of “Mexican Seafood.”
