Disney's recent purchase of Lucasfilm and the announcement that more Star Wars films will be released in the coming years has proven bittersweet for a lot of fans and industry insiders. Perhaps the person who's having the toughest time handling the situation is George Lucas himself.
The legendary filmmaker told E! Online that he is "very sad" about the change, but he's ready to move foward: "It was 40 years of work. It has been my life, but I am ready to move on to bigger and better things."
Lucas admits that he's a "control freak" (Who wouldn't be if they created one of the most iconic fictional worlds in history?), but he's confident that producer Kathy Kennedy can handle the series: "She is more than capable of taking it and making it better than I did." Fans are probably divided over that point.
Don't expect any more blockbusters from Lucas. The filmmaker doesn't think his future films will ever make it to the theater. He wants to make his "own littler personal films."
Lucas will also donate almost all of the proceeds from the Lucasfilm sale to educational charities, which will become one of his biggest focuses after he gives up Star Wars.
