A lot was made about the success Beyoncé had with releasing her latest album without any publicity or warning. The question that came from that was, "who will do it next?" Though the release of Kanye West's Air Yeezy II Red October shoe was not a total surprise, and it definitely is not an album, the fact that people had no idea when it would come out once again proves that no marketing is great marketing.
Nike picked today, February 9 (the ten year anniversary of West's debut album, College Dropout), as the day to release the coveted, and often delayed shoe. The company posted a link on their Twitter account at 1:00 today, and at 1:11 they followed it up with another tweet saying the shoes had sold out.
The rapper criticized the company in the past about the way they handled the limited shoe, saying "they try to act like people ain't line up for the Yeezys," before venting about how little control he had. The falling out ultimately led to Kanye signing a deal with Adidas.
Though the shoes have been sold out on the Nike website, some pairs have gone up for sale on eBay. If you have around $3000 you yourself could own the Red Octobers.
