2013 was a big year for Thundercat: the Brainfeeder bassist released his sophomore album Apocalypse, teamed up in numerous collaborations with Flying Lotus including a remix of Kanye's "Black Skinhead," and contributed to the Grand Theft Auto 5 soundtrack. He also was one of several musicians who served as a team member in RBMA New York 2013, where he advised and recorded with the students.
His contributions can be seen in the track "Vulnerable People," which will be featured on Red Bull Music Academy's compilation entitled Various Assets- Not For Sale: Red Bull Music Academy New York 2013. Containing material from RBMA New York students and other musicians, the compilation will be released out on January 15 and available for free.
The track is definitely reminiscent to Thundercat's space-groove basslines heard throughout The Golden Age of Apocalypse and Apocalypse. Coupled with gilded synths and vocal accompaniment from Jolly Mare and Rudi Zygadlo, "Vulnerable People" makes for a catchy song with a jazzy touch. Listen to the track via Pitchfork.
