Iggy Pop doesn't wish you a happy holidays. No, he doesn't go in for that War on Christmas tagline. Instead Iggy wishes you a Merry Christmas in a sort of Stan Brakhage on peyote-meets-Hallmark sort of way, the way god intended it.
Pop released the below über-weird twenty-second video, which is mostly silent except for a creepy baritone "hi" and a whispered "Merry Christmas," featuring Iggy standing in a hot tub wearing a Santa hat, making "fun uncle" eye contact. He also appears in the fever-dream with a parrot talking to him, watching TV with dogs, and lounging by the pool being tan.
It feels like there should be something else, but that's really it. It's really just a Merry Christmas video from Iggy Pop that is earnest. Weird, but earnest. Though I haven't tried backmasking it for a secret message yet.
At 66-years old Pop had a pretty solid 2013. He released the well-received album Ready to Die with The Stooges (watch them perform a few tracks live) and he was a pretty interesting interview in episode 400 of Marc Maron's WTF podcast.
