Thee Oh Sees Are Not Breaking Up Just Yet

Following the distressing news that Bay Area mainstays Thee Oh Sees will be going on an indefinite hiatus (which we all know is a codename for splitting up), the psych-rock icon made things clear in a note on their website:

DEAR OH SEES FANS,
THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR SUPPORT.
THE BAND IS NOT BREAKING UP.
THIS IS JUST A WELL DESERVED BREAK AND A TRANSITIONAL PERIOD.
A NEW THEE OH SEES LP WILL BE OUT EARLY 2014
AND WE WILL SEE WHERE THE LIVE SHOW GOES FROM THERE...
UNTIL THEN, BE WELL
JPD

So that's that; no need to be terribly concerned just yet. According to an SF Weekly interview with the Oh Sees' booking agent, Annie Southworth, the live hiatus is partially a result of two of the band's members' relocating out of the San Francisco area (leader John Dwyer is moving to LA, and keyboardist and vocalist Brigid Dawson is leaving for Santa Cruz), and partially a well-deserved break "after 5 years straight."

In the 14-year existence of what started as Dwyer's solo bedroom project, Thee Oh Sees have gone through two name changes and produced twelve studio albums. They've been notorious for their relentless touring and spirited, high-energy live shows. You can witness a shred of their mojo in the video below:
