Whenever rock stars put their personal items up for sale or auction, it generally is because they need money in some way, shape or form. But in the case of Tom Petty, he’s doing it to help others.
The rock veteran is putting his 1996 Jaguar XJS convertible on eBay for a good cause: to benefit Doctors Without Borders.
“I have so many great memories associated with this car,” Petty says in a press release. “When I began dating Dana (my wife) I asked her what her favorite car was. So, I phoned the office and said I wanted a Champagne convertible Jaguar XJS. This car has such and incredible design. My favorite car I ever owned. We sure are going to miss it."
Why is this car so cool? Besides being a Jaguar convertible, it’s one of the last models of this type of car around, since the company stopped manufacturing it in 1996. In addition to the car, the winner will receive personalized autographed photo of what you see above. If you’re interested in bidding, the auction opens today at 2 p.m. PST.
