Further details emerged today of the increasingly messy divorce between Jack White and his wife, British model Karen Elson. Yesterday Elson filed a restraining order against White over alleged harassment. Soon after, Hollywood gossip sniffers TMZ got hold of a number of emails sent by the former White Stripes axeman to his wife in various fits of frustration - some of which reference Black Keys frontman Dan Auerbach in less than complementary terms. According to White, Auerbach is both an “asshole” and a “rip off” – accusations that have gossip merchants currently frothing at the mouth of the prospect of a rare garage rock feud.
Apparently, White was more than miffed about his children being in the same class as Auerbach’s. According to TMZ, White writes, “my concern with Auerbach is because I don’t want the kids involved in any of that crap. You aren’t thinking ahead. That’s a possible twelve fucking years I’m going to be sitting in kids’ chairs next to that asshole with other people trying to lump us in together. He gets another free reign to follow me around and copy me and push himself into my world.”
In previous interviews White has been keen to distance himself from the Black Keys, once telling Rolling Stone that the White Stripes have more in common with Jay-Z than the Ohio rock duo. However, the leaked emails today clearly show that comparisons between the two irk White, and that the prospect of attending PTA meetings with Auerbach was simply too much to bear.
TMZ have all the emails, if you care to dive a little further into this – though it’s caustic reading, and a far cry from the couple’s original declaration that they were splitting, when they invited guests to a “divorce party” in 2011.
