I usually always have my reservations on checking out young bands. Not fully mature, but not completely innocent, younger bands usually can be notorious for having inconsistent releases with unpromising results.Yet there are those exceptions and San Cisco is one of them.
After releasing their Awkward EP, San Cisco was sort of placed in this innocent yet charming indie pop category for their pop confections like “Golden Revolver,” and “Awkward.” Now the Australian outfit has followed up with a self-titled debut that is set for release tomorrow via RCA Records; and it doesn’t land far from their previous release.
Frothing with jangly chords, upbeat instrumentation, and glittery but subtle electronics, San Cisco is a promising full- length album that is evident of them growing up, but still having fun. They still haven’t become hardened individuals just yet. Considering their ages- most of the band not even 21- the album celebrates in the innocence of being a teenager: uncertainty, falling in love, and awkward relationships.
Some people could say that the band is stuck in a peter- pan complex, and maybe so. But with thirteen songs that sound like the sunny and carefree days of youth, who would want to grow up anyways?
