Maybach Music Group's Gunplay, rap music's most valuable underachiever, just released a new 10-track mixtape, featuring 8 new songs (past mixtape favorites "Pyrex" and the fantastic "Bible on the Dash" reappear here). We're all still waiting for Gunplay's Big Statement, which is supposed to arrive later this year, but for now, here's another criminally short tape which is chock full of energy and promise. To be fair, this is much less a mixtape then the rapper's last two offerings (January's underwhelming Cops and Robbers and last year's excellent 601 and Snort)- it is, for one, not made up entirely of freestyles and seems to feature mostly original beats. It's got strong hooks, and as we've come to expect from Gunplay, nothing but stone cold verses.
Gunplay celebrates the release of Acquitted with a show at SOB's at Manhattan tonight. Listen to the tape below.
