"All characters in this visual are entirely fictional. The events that occur are purely symbolic and should not be taken literal," is how the video for one of the highlights of Kendrick Lamar's good kid, m.A.A.d. city starts off. A video of love and murder, Lamar intersperses himself to tell it how it is. Drake also shows up and does his verse with a half-naked woman on the bed as he talks on the phone.
Lamar wanted Janet Jackson - who is sampled all over the track - in the video, but there was no word from Jackson's people. She did apparently hear the plea, according to MTV, but nothing.
The video does, however, maintain the same cinematic style echoed in the album's intense storytelling. It tells of a flirtatious meeting ended by a shooting, which sounds like poetic justice.
