For some reason "journalists" in São Paulo (and the term ' journalist' is used loosely here) are convinced Radiohead's Jonny Greenwood is secretly holed up in Brazil awaiting the Mayan apocalypse.
According to Brazilian news site Folha de Sao Paulo, Greenwood is staying at a "self-sufficient" flat in a remote location near the city of São Luíz do Paraitinga. The city's Tourism Minister, Eduardo de Oliveira Coelho, confirmed this report, claiming that Greenwood had been a guest since early December and that his bandmates would be joining him in the next few days. It gets weirder: as per Coelho, if the world doesn't end, Greenwood agreed to extend his stay and even provide free classes to local youth. Emmanuel Rengade, owner of the hotel, added, "The reason why he's here is to get away, because hotels like this preserve the privacy of guests and he does not want publicity" (while illustrating just how flimsy his hotel's privacy policy is).
Obviously, this story is borderline insane (and possibly proof that the world is indeed coming to an end, just not in the way we imagined). Greenwood, Radiohead, and their appropriate management team have denied all claims. [Daily Mail]
