The one true litmus test of a mashup album is whether you can play it at a party and have everyone freak out over the cleverness and recognizability of the mashed-up songs in question. Scott Melker's latest full-length mix, The Melker Project 2, passes this test with flying colors. Classic mashup material (The Strokes, Lil Wayne) flows into unexpected gems like Three Six Mafia's "Doe Boy Fresh" laid over the guitar riff from "Brain Stew." The Beatles also make a few appearances, always accompanied by very un-Beatley trap rap.
Like the best mashups, you're not supposed to think hard about anything; just sit back, maybe shake your ass a little, and listen to easy listening '70s tracks mingle with Chris Brown and Kreayshawn. The Melker Project 2 drops today on RumbaTime.
