It looks like a lot of audiences only wanted to see the new Ethan Hawke horror film Sinister on Friday night. The film came in first place at Friday's box office, beating the juggernaut that is Taken 2. However, not only did Taken 2 work its way into first place, but Ben Affleck's Argo pushed into second.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Taken 2 made $22.5 million in its second weekend. That puts it at $86.8 million in the U.S. and $132.8 million internationally, adding up to a spectacular $219.6 million globally.
Meanwhile, Argo sneaked into second place from its third place position on Friday. The Ben Affleck-directed political drama made $20.1 million. That's a 47 percent increase between Friday and Saturday. The film will likely receive an even bigger audience when its award nominations start pouring in (which they undoubtedly will).
Friday's leader, the creepy Sinister, came in third for the weekend. It may have fallen two spots from its opening day, but it still saw an impressive performance, making $18 million. That's especially good news because the film cost less than $3 million.
Another Halloween-appropriate film, Hotel Transylvania, stayed strong, making it to fourth place with $17.3 million.
The new Kevin James comedy Here Comes the Boom only made it to fifth place, grossing $12 million.
