Shazam Announces Most Tagged Music Of 2012 And Predicts 2013 Hits

Mobile music app Shazam analyzes sounds to identify songs. In its 2012 annual report, the company revealed which songs in the past year were the most tagged by its users. Unsurprisingly, the list closely resembles the list of the most streamed songs at Spotify.

Gotye's "Somebody I Used to Know" was number one with 15 million tags followed far behind by Fun's "We Are Young" and its 8 million tags. Gotye was also the most tagged male artist, while Rihanna claimed the title for females.

Shazam also released it's predictions on which artists will top the charts in 2013. According to Shazam executive VP of marketing David Jones, ""If a song hits No. 1 on Shazam's New Release tag chart, it has an 80% chance of being a top 10 on a Billboard chart 33 days later."

Here are Shazam's 2013 predictions on which artists will lead the charts:

  1. French Montana
  2. Bei Maejor
  3. AlunaGeorge
  4. Kodaline
  5. Becky G
  6. Angel Haze
  7. Rhye
  8. Tito Lopez
  9. Baauer
  10. Haim
