Although "Baby" has been a staple of Brooklyn-based supergroup the Babies' live shows for well over a year, the Cassie Ramone-penned track had yet to be included on any official studio recordings until the release of the band's newest album, Our House On The Hill. (The track did appear as a live version on the Babies' Live At The Smell cassette, which only saw a limited release.)
Originally written for a solo album that was unfortunately shelved back in 2010, "Baby" is one of Ramone's most infectious and endearingly captivating songs — and the Babies' embellishments to the song's otherwise simple structure effectively highlight Ramone's songwriting skills.
"Baby" is, quite undeniably, a characteristically Cassie Ramone tune — so it's no surprise that the group's official video for the track features no other members of the Babies but Ramone herself. Directed by Timothy Fiore, the "Baby" clip places Ramone alone on a massive stage, standing in front of a cheesy karaoke screen, almost motionless as she sings along to the song. One can't help but notice Ramone performs to a completely empty room, pining for her absent lover — making the experience as awkward as it is strangely intimate.
