For Courtney Love fans looking forward to a Kurt Cobain documentary with her special touch, dreams have been dashed: Love is not involved "in any capacity" with the project. Her publicist denied rumors (dispensed by the always virtuous New York Post) that she agreed to work on the movie, and director Brett Morgen echoed Love camp's rhetoric, saying some of his previous comments about the singer's commitment had been taken out of context.
Morgen told Entertainment Weekly, "Back in 2007, I had a meeting in LA with Courtney Love to discuss my possible involvement in a Kurt Cobain documentary. She had seen my film, The Kid Stays in the Picture, and thought that I had the right vision and passion to bring Kurt's story to life." He went on to explain, "Since that time, I have been speaking exclusively with Kurt Cobain's estate, who has given me their full co-operation in order to make the film. Courtney isn't involved with the project in any capacity."
While she's not on board with the film, Love has given Morgen her blessings, calling him a "great director" and stating that she's "very happy" he's at the helm. The untitled documentary is slated to begin production in the coming months, with a projected 2014 release. [The Guardian]
