Listen To The National Cover 1920s Classic "I'll See You In My Dreams" For 'Boardwalk Empire'

HBO series Boardwalk Empire has consistently featured an impressive lineup of contemporary musicians covering 1920s classics, including St. Vincent, Regina Spektor, David Johansen (New York Dolls), and now Brooklyn's The National doing old-timey "I'll See You in My Dreams."

The Prohibition-era song was originally recorded in 1924 by Isham Jones and The Ray Miller Orchestra, and since then has been covered by such names as Pat Boone, Doris Day, Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerals, and recently, Ingrid Michaelson. The National's version preserves the vintage quality of the piece while Matt Beringer's inimitable baritone slightly obscures the otherwise sweet, lovesick ballad, the result being a tad unsettling (which perfectly echoes the show's dark themes).
