D.C.-via-Belin rock-revivalists Zulu Pearls cite the ‘60s, drinks and DIY among their influences on their Facebook page. Turns out they’re not joking around. Today, the four-piece released a new video for “Magic Tricks,” a standout track off their latest release NO HEROES NO HONEYMOONS, which prominently features a little bit of each. The minimalist video is shot in a webcam ‘confessional’ style, as each member of the band addresses the camera individually in their own box. A hand offscreen continues to give them sparklers, booze and cigarettes, while the kick drum pulses with the color-changing strobe lights. Primary songwriter Zach Van Hoozer’s slightly Julian Casablancas-indebted vocals soar over the chorus as the video’s sparkler-to-shot ratio increases and the track takes off. Cool.
