Watch: A Patriotic Trailer For 'Red Dawn' (Video)

They don't make war movies like they used to. After World War II, there were plenty of films about that enormous conflict, but the 70 years since it ended has seen interest peter out. Vietnam had a pretty short half-life, and you rarely see pictures about that war much anymore. Even both Gulf Wars have failed to connect with moviegoers at the box office, a few exceptions like The Hurt Locker notwithstanding.

However, that doesn't mean Hollywood producers have entirely given up on war movies. The solution to a lack of resonant battles in reality is to manufacture enemies. This has the added bonus of making the tension in a movie much higher -- no other country has ever invaded the United States, but that doesn't mean it can't happen in a movie.

That's the premise behind Red Dawn, a remake of the 1984 film about high school students who fight off a Soviet invasion. The 2012 version, which comes out on Nov. 21, updates the enemies to be North Korean and takes place in Washington State rather than Colorado.
