Spielberg, Tarantino And Snyder Will Not Direct 'Star Wars: Episode VII'

The list of possible directors for the recently announced Star Wars sequel just got shorter. While Matthew Vaughn is reportedly in talks to helm the new project, that's not stopping fans from speculating about who could take on the franchise.

You can now rule out Steven Spielberg, Quentin Tarantino and Zack Snyder. All three directors are taking themselves out of the running to direct the new installment, and FirstShowing (via Indiewire) has put together their comments about it, which boast varying degrees of reverence.

Spielberg made sure to remind everyone that George Lucas is his friend. He told Access Hollywood, "No! No! It's not my genre. It's my best friend George's genre."

Tarantino was less respectful. He told EW, "I could so care less. No, sorry. Especially if Disney's going to do it. I'm not interested in the Simon West version of 'Star Wars.'" This isn't too disappointing, though. Do we really want to see Tarantino's version of Star Wars?

As a Star Wars fan, Snyder wouldn't want to disappoint anyone, telling the LA Times, "I'm a huge 'Star Wars' fanatic. I just think doing [episodes] seven, eight and nine is just a slippery slope."

Meanwhile, Conan O'Brien continues to give us his ideas for which directors are trying out for the job, through humorous audition tapes which you can check out here and here.
