Could 'Django Unchained' Be Three Hours Long?

Sometimes, when it comes to epic, Oscar-worthy films, less is more. Other times, the longer the runtime, the more Oscar-worthy a film becomes. The latter concept could apply to Quentin Tarantino's upcoming film Django Unchained.

According to Indiewire, Sony executives recently saw a three-hour version of the film, and it was apparently very successful. One of the screening's attendees said that once more early screenings occur for industry insiders, "there are going to be some serious changes to the current Oscar predictions."

Could Tarantino's latest period piece go the way of his Inglourious Basterds, and get a Best Picture nod at the Academy Awards? Sounds like it. Plus, since the three-hour cut did so well with execs, the movie could remain quite long, but Indiewire thinks it will most likely be edited down. However, Tarantino's films are usually relatively long-running, so it might not be cut by too much.

Additionally, Christoph Waltz, who won an Oscar for his role in Inglourious Basterds, could be changed from Best Supporting Actor consideration to consideration for Best Actor, with co-star Jamie Foxx. Could Waltz win his second Oscar for another Tarantino collaboration?

Django Unchained, also starring Leonardo DiCaprio, will be released Christmas Day.
