Paul Thomas Anderson Wants To Make An R-Rated Comedy Like 'Ted'

Paul Thomas Anderson, who needs Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe" to make him happy, recently came out to Moviehole that he's a big fan of filthy, adult-only comedies like Airplane! The not-so-serious director who specializes in serious, offbeat film, admits he finds the task of writing a comedy rather daunting but that he's fully committed to the idea.

He goes on to say, "I'd like to make a film like Airplane!. That never gets old. Or Ted. It was a big hit. Why? Because it’s great. Movies that are that big a hit are never fucking bad." His logic is a bit dodgy, but the general argument is solid: boner jokes sell.

The director also discussed his love of Die Hard (he's a superfan!) but has no desire to pursue the action genre: "Action films take a lot of time and they're really fun to watch and edit together, but they're not that much fun to make." When he's not looking for a fun time, PTA is releasing exclusive never-before-seen footage from The Master and undoubtedly spending time with his fun(ny) wife, comedian/actress Maya Rudolph.
