Winning the prestigious Mercury Prize has allowed for a band to be introduced to legions of new fans. Alt-J is no different.
Following their victory last week, the quartet has seen sales of their debut album increase dramatically, with a total of 46,000 albums sold since they were nominated back eight weeks ago (via NME). Overall, sales are a whopping 400 percent in their native England they were announced as nominees.
Last year’s victor, PJ Harvey, saw her Let England Shake jump 800 percent while the album rose up the Official Albums Chart from Number 181 to 24, the highest jump in the 20-year history of the show.
It’s fair to say that winning the Mercury Prize is good for a band’s bottom line.
