Premiered by Prefix today, Philadelphia-based producer Starkey's remix of Son Of Kick's "EOW" is a three-minute showcase of the madness that ensues when you fuse some of the best Transatlantic electronic talent.
"EOW" is already a fiery number, featuring one of the UK's most prolific and forward-thinking hip-hop outfits Foreign Beggars as well as Manchester-based grimestep crew Virus Syndicate, but Starkey embeds a pure head-nodder of a soundbed—one that soon charges its energy and climaxes into a flurry of claps, trap-style hi-hats and mousy sirens (which could have easily been tailored for an Azealia Banks or Diplo).
"There's an immediacy to the track from that initial vocal stutter; the double time flow really pushes the tempo as well. I had a lot of fun with the structure, so when you finally get that big drop with the "Bang" vocal sample, you're already well into the feel of the track," offers Starkey on his refix.
All in all, this is a sure favorite for raves on both sides of the pond. Son Of Kick's "EOW" will officially release Nov. 13 through SMOG RECORDS, and will come complete with the original track and its instrumental, Starkey's remix, plus an additional remix from Noah D.
