The Internet and nerddom at large has been abuzz for the last few days over the recent news that Disney has purchased LucasFilm and that Star Wars: Episode VII is on the way. Speculation has been abounding about who will direct the newest installment of the classic sci-fi series, and today there’s finally a strong contender. No, it’s not the rumored Brad Bird, Duncan Jones or Drew Goddard or even Michael Moore, Woody Allen or Kevin Smith.
According to the Collider — and they acknowledge that this could not be 100% confirmed yet — Matthew Vaughn (Kick-Ass, X-Men: First Class and Layer Cake) is in talks to take the helm. Again, this is still just a rumor, but it is made all the more enticing by word that Vaughn dropped out of his upcoming directorial project, X-Men: Days of Future Past, less than a week before the Star Wars sequels were announced.
