Tropics aka Chris Ward is one smooth operator. His new Popup Cinema EP is a sensual blend of electronic beats, organic keys, fresh percussion and his smooth soulful vocals. Lead by the first track with the same title as EP, “Popup Cinema” is a sensual rnb tracking backed by hip beats frolicking throughout the whole song. Running a little over six minutes, the beat is so hypnotizing that you wouldn’t even know just how long the song has been running. Then followed by “Invitation,” the song is a much more eighties melt with dancing synths and echoing percussion and eventually falling into a danceable rhythm. Wards’ vocals are chopped up into beautiful round just hollering at you to move your body. The last original track on the EP “Ophelia” is an electro-inducing number full of ethereal instrumentals. The final track is a remix of “Popup Cinema” by Kelpe. Unlike the original’s rnb vibe, the remix makes the track much more beat oriented.
If there are any kept secrets out there, it’s definitely British multi-instrumentalist Chris Ward aka Tropics. He has a penchant ear for capturing beauty through is mastery of instruments and his voice.
