They were odds-on favorites to win, and that's exactly what they did: British folk-electro-rockers/"the new Radiohead" Alt-J have won this year's Mercury Prize for their debut An Awesome Wave. The Mercury goes to the best album released in the UK and Ireland; past winners include Portishead, The xx, and Arctic Monkeys. Alt-J beat out other eleven other nominees, including Jessie Ware, Ben Howard, Michael Kiwanuka, and The Maccabees.
