Do you remember listening to The Postal Service's one and only album, Give Up, for the first time? I do. I bought it right when it came out at the beginning of 2003, and I think it was in my car's CD player for the rest of that year.
Ben Gibbard's soothing voice washes over you as it floats atop tinkering electronics created by Jimmy Tamborello in singles like "Such Great Heights," "The District Sleeps Alone Tonight," and "We Will Become Silhouettes." It was always unbelieveable to me that this album was written long-distance because it seemed to perfectly executed.
Today, the duo's hard work has paid off to the fullest. Sub Pop announced that the album has gone Platinum, selling 1,067,087 copies in the past ten years and becoming the second-highest selling album in the record label's history (behind Nirvana's Bleach).
Both Gibbard and Tamborello both deny the thought of a Postal Service reunion, but maybe this has changed their minds? We sure hope so. Either way, congratulations you two. You deserve it!
