
The city of Aberdeen, WA, recognized in pop culture lore as the birthplace of grunge icon Kurt Cobain, has been taking steps towards putting its name firmly on the rock and roll tourism destination map. February 20, the Nirvana songwriter's birthday (he would have turned 47 yesterday), is now officially Kurt Cobain Day in Aberdeen, but city mayor Bill Simpson only seems to be getting started. "We hope this is just as big as Graceland, eventually," Simpson admitted during the unveiling of a questionably-looking statue Aberdeen commissioned to immortalize the singer.
