On February 25, New York City based band, SKATERS, will be releasing their debut album, Manhattan, but before that, they are providing a stream of the upcoming record.
Since 2012, the band has been getting a lot of attention for their sound, attitude and promise. The comparisons are easy to make, NME has described the band as "everything we wished The Strokes still epitomized," and the influences are just as obvious, as the NY Times wrote, "the self-invented, devil-may-care attitude that’s characterized both skate culture and the irreverent sound of so many New York bands (the Ramones and Suicide come to mind) has had a big influence on Skaters."
Manhattan was recorded at Jimi Hendrix's Electric Lady Studios, and follows the path laid out on the bands Schemers EP. Songs are fast paced, with some basic structures, but there is more to the band than just a garage sound, as is clear on "Band Breaker." Sirens, girls talking, and cell phones ringing are all thrown into the melting pot of Manhattan, leaving an at times grimy, but always endearing experience.
