Today marks the birthday of the posthumous Detroit producer J Dilla. Working off Detroit's musical gems of Motown and hip-hop, J Dilla took up beatmaking and formed a group with his friends T3 and Baatin known as Slum Village. Later solidifying himself as a hip-hop prospect, Dilla began to work on extensive collaborations with artists including Erykah Badu, Common, Talib Kweli and more.
But despite Dilla's death, his legacy continues to live on through his long catalog of mixes and beats that inspire a wide range of musicians including Dillamental: an instrumental piece in tribute of the Detroit producer.
Thanks to Magic Owl Pictures, they have uploaded a video of Dillamental performing a medley of Dilla-helmed tracks including "Don't Cry," "Gobstopper," "Two Can Win," "Mash," "Lightworks," and "Workinonit." View the video below.
