Recently, it’s Retch who—in an area that seems to be relatively under a rap dry spell—is fully successful in putting up a score for North Jersey. Representation is of course not the sole point conveyed by his new mixtape Polo Sporting Goods. An initial gander at the project cover and a track list that includes “Pimp Sport” and “Paul Allen’s Business Card” could lead to mistaken conclusions about Retch’s MO for those regretfully unfamiliar till now, but flare and pop culture references, though sparingly present, are not quite staples of Retch's rap. Soundtracked solely (and aptly) by rising producer Thelonious Martin, Polo is a bundle of vocally induced vivid imaginations of bleak experiences, which is definitely not to say the tape progresses uninterestingly. Ab-Soul and Retch confidant Action Bronson make appearances.
