Earlier this year, the beloved pioneers of modern post-hardcore in Thrice announced an indefinite hiatus. After fourteen years of full-time touring and eight studio albums, the band gave fans a proper and long-winded farewell with a final tour and the upcoming release of Anthology, a collection of live recordings from that tour.
In an interview with Property Of Zack, drummer Riley Breckenridge opens up about his life since the group’s break-up and a new project he’s quietly at work on with his brother, Thrice bassist Ed Breckenridge and Michael Shumaker former Hey Mercedes guitarist/ vocalist.
Shumaker met the brothers while engineering live sound for Thrice, and according to Breckenridge, the music will be reminiscent of Fugazi – “Right now it’s cool, heavy, and weird and kind of dissonant and riffy.”
Although it’s unclear as to when the band will release music, fans shouldn’t have to wait too long – “Geography is making it tough because Mike’s in Cleveland, but we’re trying to do what we can with file-sharing and email to piece something together so we can get into a studio and bang out an EP. We’d like to have it out sooner than later. There’s no date or schedule, but it’s something that will be decided upon fairly soon.”
