Listen To Lakutis “Body Scream” (Prod. by Hot Sugar)

New York-rapper Lakutis has had my attention ever since 2011's wild and esoteric I'm In The Forest EP and, while subsequent solo output has been sparse, since then I've seen him straight-up murder every guest spot that will hold him. This April he dropped "Too Ill For The Law." Distancing the rapper somewhat from the hyper-smart lyricism of his Das Racist affiliates, the track brimmed with half-playful, half-serious gangsta tropes and ushered in a even more compelling new sound.

"Too Ill For The Law," he said, would be the first track from a new solo record, Three Seashells, and today we get another glimpse of the new album. The Hot Sugar-produced "Body Scream" is melodious and passionate, at times channeling some kind of 80s power ballad aesthetic (and doing so effectively). Lyrically, the track sets up a clever twist. Lakutis is looking back towards girl and how he used to make her "body scream." But things have changed and now, in envious lament rather than primal pleasure, it is Lakutis and not the girl who is left screaming.

Three Seashells will drop January 16 via Greedhead. See the tracklist and listen to "Body Scream" below. [The Fader]
