Even after more than eight years since releasing an album, former Bad Boy rapper Shyne has a knack for staying on the public's mind—often thanks to controversy. Earlier this week, he lambasted Kendrick Lamar's good kid, m.A.A.d city album—a record that has been welcomed to almost unanimous acclaim—by calling it "trash." Kendrick is hardly one to get caught up in a war of words, but he did have a response (sort of) to Shyne in a recent interview with Hip-Hop Wired.
"I'm not a sensitive guy, so that's his opinion. Can't stop what the world thinks, so yeah, that's him," he said, before speaking on his album with the confidence it deserves. " It's classic worthy, you know? But it has to stand with the time and have the years behind it. Right now it's classic worthy and people [will] look back and say, 'Kendrick's first album really, really, really outdid everything else and became a classic.' I went into it with intentions of making it a classic, so I'm glad everybody's saying that now."
good kid, m.A.A.d city is currently on track to sell over 200K first-week copies, likely debuting at No. 2 on the Billboard 200—just behind Taylor Swift's Red, which is expected to shift an incredible one million units.
