When Dorian Wood released his latest LP Rattle Rattle — one of my favorite albums of 2013 so far — he marked it with an all-acoustic live performance of the album at L.A.'s MorYork Gallery in July. Wood has slowly been releasing beautifully shot video from the show, directed by Alex Chaloff. (Watching these videos it's hard to believe that it's all acoustic, his voice is so powerful.)
The performance, billed as Dorian Wood with the Rattle Rattle Chamber Orchestra, is stunning. The album's dark operatic beauty is enhanced by the rawness of the live setting and the necessarily dynamic perfomance that playing without amplification requires. The latest track to make its way online is "Americana," which you can watch below.
I also recommend watching the performances of "La Cara Infinita" and "Bodies (The Levitant)," to start.
Rattle Rattle is available now.
