Game of Thrones show-runners David Benioff and Dan Weiss have already shown a penchant for indie rock by having The Hold Steady record a song ("The Bear and the Maiden") for the credits of an episode in the show's most recent season and previously having had The National do an in-episode tavern song ("The Rains of Castamere"). Members of Snow Patrol and Coldplay have also made cameos on the show. Now Benioff and Weiss are taking the indie-rock tie-ins a step further by casting the three members of Sigur Rós (Kjartan Sveinsson left the band earlier this year to work on another project) in undisclosed roles for the shows upcoming fourth season.
The band is rumored to be in Croatia now, on shoot. Funny that they aren't a part of the story that is shot in Iceland, as Benioff has said before that he listens to their music while on set in Iceland.
The show has not yet confirmed whether or not the band will be performing a song. Beinoff and Weiss are big fans of the band's music and Entertainment Weekly, who broke the story, said, "We’re sworn to secrecy on the nature of the appearance. But they are musicians, so … let the speculation begin!"
Sounds like there will be some tunes.
Sigur Rós will begin their US tour on September 14. Game of Thrones season 4 will air in spring 2014.
