After releasing a slew of EP’s- Facedown, Sex, Music For Cars, and IV- The 1975 is finally set to release their debut self-titled album on September 3 via Dirty Hit/ Polydor. While they have already released their reworked single, “Sex,” and “The City,” the band has now followed up with another new single titled “M.O.N.E.Y.”
While the song still retains their pop sensibilities and that sort of charming bad boy image, the song strays away from their punk guitar rumbles in their former EP. With musings of having enough money, getting blown, broken phones, and nosebleeds, “M.O.N.E.Y” sounds like an unabashed tale of modern youth filled with inebriation, lust, and unrequited love.
Before becoming the burgeoning heart throbbers that they are today, frontman Matthew Healy said “We’re not desperate to be famous, we’re not desperate to be in a massive band.’” But after hearing “M.O.N.E.Y” and “Sex” it’s sort of hard to believe that.
