Fronted by John "Illa J" Yancey and Frank Nitt, the Yancey Boys will be releasing a new collection of unheard tracks titled Sunset Blvd via Delicious Vinyl. All the tracks are produced by Illa J's late brother: the legendary producer, J Dilla.
Originating from Dilla's collection of Lost Scrolls, Sunset Blvd might sound like a nostalgic pastiche of 90's hip-hop but Frank Nitt thinks otherwise: "This isn’t a nostalgia trip: Dilla’s beats were so future-forward that they’re right on time in 2013," said Nitt. "And we’ve assembled the best artists possible to represent that.”
In their newly released single, "Quicksand," Yancey Boys team up with longtime J Dilla collaborator Common, and Dezi Paige. Sunset Blvd also features De La Soul’s Posdnuos, The Pharcyde’s SlimKid3, Slum Village's T3, and DJ's like Rhettmatic, C-Minus, and JRocc.
