RIAA Certifies Kendrick Lamar's good kid, m.A.A.d city Platinum

In case you've been living under a rock, Kendrick Lamar has been causing quite a stir lately (and that's an understatement). It could be because he recently crowned himself as the "King of New York," or maybe it's just the entire guest verse on Big Sean's "Control" in general. Either way, the Top Dawg general has yet another reason to celebrate, as his critically-acclaimed debut album good kid, m.A.A.d city has been certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America.

The certification comes on the heels of the infamous bars K-Dot rhymed on GOOD Music artist Big Sean's song "Control" (commonly referred to on the Internet as "that Kendrick verse"). Last week, Sean took to New York's legendary radio station Hot 97 to let Funkmaster Flex premiere "Control" featuring Lamar and the oh-so-mysterious Jay Electronica. The song doesn't appear on the Detroit emcee's sophomore album Hall of Fame due to sample clearance issues, but it definitely caused the spark he needed to help promote the album. It wasn't until listeners heard the Dr. Dre protegé call out his fellow peers in his verse (Drake, J. Cole, A$AP Rocky and even Sean among them) and claim the number one spot that the Internet really started buzzing.

There have been tons of "responses" to the verse to date, but Lamar can stay calm and add this to his list of recent achievements, knowing he recently topped MTV's Hottest MCs list. Lamar shows no signs of slowing down, which is definitely a great sign for fans. [Hypetrak]
