Hailing all the way from Toronto, Canada, Silver Soul is a hip-hop duo formed by Rick Konner and Tom Sawyer. Like many other hip-hop groups, Konner and Sawyer had their own respective projects involving music production and DJing until the two teamed up to work under the moniker Silver Soul. After, the two finally decided to work on their forthcoming debut Of Guts & Glory, to be released on September 23.
Touching heavily on the ideas of being misunderstood, their debut finds the two reflecting on themselves; "their [unconventional] norms, tastes, politics/religion, and desires." So it's not necessarily Silver Soul against the world, but Silver Soul against themselves.
Today, the duo has released "Distinguish," off their forthcoming debut Of Guts & Glory. Playing along with the tropes of conscious hip-hop, they question the innocence of the American Dream as they ask "if everything came true, you could be victimized, what if you woke up one morning and heard the stupid lies." At first the song is slightly nostalgic to boom bap production with prominent drum beats but slightly skews as small embellishments of subtle electronics coalesce with Konner and Sawyer's conscious rap stylings.
