'Big Bang Theory' Writer Dave Goetsch Developing CBS Sitcom Titled 'Smells Like Teen Spirit'

Every day it seems another sitcom staffer is going solo on their own new TV project. Now Big Bang Theory fans might soon have a new favorite CBS comedy. One of the show's writers, Dave Goetsch, is developing a new multicamera sitcom for the network titled Smells Like Teen Spirit.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series, for which CBS has comitted a put-pilot, is about an 18-year-old entrepreneur starting an internet business in his family's garage instead of going to Harvard. The protagonist has the help of his best friend, his sister and his parents, who happen to be '90s indie rockers (hence the Nirvana-inspired title?).

Goetsch has written for and executive-produced the Emmy-winning Big Bang Theory since it started, and he's also worked on the popular sitcoms 3rd Rock From the Sun and Grounded For Life.

The premise certainly sounds relevant in an age of internet-based stories like The Social Network, and the name behind it predicts success.

This is the second CBS pilot being developed recently by a Big Bang Theory staffer. Earlier this year, supporting stars John Ross Bowie and Kevin Sussman started developing a sitcom called The Second Coming of Rob, to which CBS has given a script order. The sitcom will be inspired by Bowie's life.
